Happy Holidays 2014!

Last week I mentioned some suggestions on what you can do with your year-end bonus, and remembering what I wrote last month, I listed giving to charity as my 1st suggestion.

So this year, I have decided to give away all my Google AdSense earnings which comes up to $76.89 as of today. I blog as a hobby and not for profit. Maybe if I was a chiobu like Andrea Chong I would consider blogging a viable job. Sadly, I am not. *sobs*

Anyway, on top of that, I have decided to match this amount with my own money one-for-one, and round up the total amount to $10.

So, $76.89 X 2 = $153.78 round up to ~ $160

With that amount in mind, I began my search for the charities that I would like to donate to.

Step 1) Find charities eligible for one-for-one matching donations (double help for the charities!)
Step 2) Find regulated charities (IPC) (Charities Act)
Step 3) Pick 16 charities that I identify with from the overlap

I know some people might scoff at the amount, but it doesn't bother me one bit. Every little bit count and adds up over time. Isn't that what we've all learnt and know as investors? You've got to start from somewhere.

For me, that is here.

Happy Holidays everyone :)

  1. Hi GMGH,

Great to see you doing charity donations to those who really need it. I am ashamed of myself as i've just cancelled my monthly donation of $59.00 to SASCO Senior Home. As i need to help top up the hard cold cash to help my parent pay off this HDB loan and also to be more focused in enhancing my portfolio.

You really deserve a respect from me!

    1. Hi jfree,

Thanks for the comment. Nothing to be ashamed about, we also need to take care of ourselves and our parents too! Once you feel that you are in a better situation, you could always start again :)

  2. Hi GMGH

The amount does not matter. It's the thoughts that counts.

You earned my deep respect for doing such a notable thing coming up to the new year.

May you have a blessed Xmas and a happy new year.

    1. Hi B,

I agree, intentions can even be more powerful than the actual outcome itself.

Happy holidays to you and your family!

  3. Hi GMGH,

I am impressed, especially after having crossed swords with you and knowing more about your views on capitalism and meritocracy.

There's a much softer side to you as well. =p

Donating your blog income is a great gesture and matching it makes it even better.

    1. Hi Mr 15HWW,

Haha, even scary monsters have their weaknesses :P

Strangely, I don't think capitalism and charity are at odds with each other. There is always going to be inequality under any economic system, which will require charities to help out.

I have got to admit, I am happy and comfortable with my life, so I can afford to share my excesses. This process also helps remind me that life isn't about grabbing as many things as you can before it's time up, haha
